NIST DATABASES

Overview

The [NIST Data Gateway] (http://srdata.nist.gov/gateway/gateway?dblist=0) is an online system designed to provide users with easy access to [NIST] (http://www.nist.gov/) (National Institute of Standards and Technology) scientific and technical data. These data cover a broad range of substances and properties from many different scientific disciplines. The Gateway provides:

  • Direct links to free NIST online systems and full text online versions of many [Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data] (http://www.nist.gov/srd/jpcrd.cfm) (JPCRD) articles.
  • Search options based on keyword, property, and substance name. Over 1000 keywords and properties as well as over 140,000 substance name.
  • Links for purchase of paid databases

Origin

Version 1.0 was launched in 2001 with 74 NIST databases: 26 online systems and 48 PC products to provide users with easy access to NIST scientific and technical data

Data and Codebase Contents

  • The scope of Version 4.0 (latest) of the Gateway is 115 NIST databases:
    • 62 online systems with scientific and technical data
    • 50 PC products. The PC products include 26 standard reference databases and 25 imaging databases available from the NIST
  • Few examples of available data and tools are
    • Atomic structure database (data on atomic energy levels, wavelengths, and transition probabilities)
    • Kinetics database
    • Thermodynamics database
    • Reusable computer software components which are available for use in mathematical modeling and statistical analysis
    • Facial Recognition Technology (FERET) Database provides automatic face recognition capabilities
    • Property database - Thermal, mechanical, structural, and chemical properties of ceramics
    • Finite Element Modeling of Materials with Complex Microstructure (OOF tool) to calculate macroscopic properties from images of real or simulated microstructures.
    • Fundamental physical constants
    • X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Database gives access to energies of many photoelectron and Auger-electron spectral lines

Data access

  • Both free and paid databases and tools are available on the website. Free databases can be accessed using this link
